Cultural Residency of Bhutanese Artists

POSTPONED to Next April 6 to 12 2019 due to visa delays and scheduling issues. Asian Cultural Center of Vermont will be presenting a delegation of cultural artists from the Kingdom of Bhutan who will be residing at C.X. Silver Gallery, 814 Western Avenue, Brattleboro, giving demonstrations, exhibiting their work and discussing their work with visitors. The delegation features a return by Rinzin Wangmo professional weaver and dye expert who has come before to Brattleboro for residencies and this time is coming with five more people. Wangchuk is a mask-maker who works in wood. Kuenzang Deki is a weaver working with the traditional backstrap loom who also specializes in organic dye. She also organizes and leads tours into remote parts of Bhutan. Rigzin’s art is basketry. Tharpa Tashi is a traditional embroidered boot maker. Wangchuk Rinpoche is a priest (rinpoche) who recites scriptures for the wellbeing of sentient beings. He is also a specialist in translating thangka paintings and traditional mask dances.
